Early Design of London Underground map (1927), Originally designed by
F H Stingemore
The design of the London Underground map shows distinctive modernist design. Internationalism is a key feature that this piece of design portrays. The idea that it is showing a language of design that could be understood on a material and international basis. For example the key and colour coding is there to make the communication and message very clear and legible.
i-D Magaizne is a British magazine dedicated to fashion, art and youth culture. The magazine was founded in 1980 by Terry Jones, who designed this particular cover. The aesthetics of this issue portrays Post-Modernism because of the chaotic colours and complexity and legibility of type. Also the use of the photography and new materials suggests Post-Modernism design. The cover has a rebellious feel to it which again conveys a Post-Modernist feature.
