Alphabet Soup//Workshop Illustrator

'Extracted' Typefaces

For the Illustrator brief, an alphabet needs to be produced communicating one of the ten letterforms communicating the word 'Extract'. Here is some existing typefaces focusing on this.

This idea of each letter being broken and therefore 'Extracted' has a really strong impact. The harsh, straight lins gives a sense of anger, boldness and almost danger. Something like this would be an effective design for really getting across an idea simple but with impact.

This effect of the bottom part of the letter being 'Extracted' works really well as it is still legible but really bold. What works particularly well is that the top half of the letters are quite strong and compact, then as the letter goes down, it gets more and more eroded.

Here, it is quite the opposite as the previous typeface. In contrast, instead of a bold, strong outline, this letterform consists of thinner more rounded lines. Also in terms of communicating the idea of 'Extract', each letter is just simply pulled a part a little bit. Therefore this design isn't overcomplicated but equally conveys the concept of 'Extraction'.

This alphabet above is quite similar to the previous one but has a much bolder, stencil like body to it.

Above shows a very 3-D effect applied to letterforms. Because of this, some of the 'Extracted' parts really stand out from the purple background, therefore creating higher impact.
